Late Summer Dances: Sango (Land Locked Ocean), 2015
Sisal, retroreflective tape, sound

Inspired by experiencing a new place sonically, the Late Summer Dances: Sango series is composed of samples from a specific time and place. Capturing the sounds of the late summer as heard in Sango, Tennessee in 2014. This particular work, Land Locked Ocean, employs vehicle noise from a rural road at night to mimic waves lapping a foreign shore.

The musical term dance refers to a composition that accompanies movement -- dance. Dances are a diverse category, ranging from waltz to dubstep, unified by motion and a social purpose. The works in this series are all paired with skirts made from farm supplies and castoffs. The skirts function as costumes for the dances and are presented as artifacts of previous performances.
